Chancellor George Osborne has used his budget speech to say that all schools in England must become academies by 2020 or have official plans to do so by 2022.

These plans have proved to be controversial, particularly among Primary School teachers, as less than 20% of primary schools are academies, as compared with secondary schools where 70% are academies. This announcement is a part of wider reforms to education announced by the Ministry of Education in a recently released white paper.
