Hargreaves, A. and Fullan, M. (2012). Professional capital. New York: Teachers College Press.
This book is about schools improving through creating a dynamic learning culture for their own staff. The authors argue that successful schools are where teachers work in a collaborative environment and improve their own professional practice and practice across the school. We value this work for clarifying a definition of professional capital and for fleshing out its implications for the teaching profession. It also has valuable insights into the hazards that can come from if schools are mismanaged from a relational perspective, in the section on collegiality vs congeniality.
